If you are an expectant mother one of the first things that you picturise for the baby would be the crib. As you walk by baby
shops you will be tempted to pick up those beautiful ones with lace and all kinds of accessories. We are not saying that these
are bad but there are a few things you need to know while choosing the crib for the baby.
1. The crib should have tight and firm joints that do not pinch. It also needs to be firm and make sure it does not wobble
each time baby moves.
2. Choose a simple and practical design, something that does not pose any kind of risk to the baby, something that does not
catch the baby's clothing or trap little arms.
3. The slats need to be closely placed so that baby's head does not get stuck in any way. The ideal space between slats is
about 2.5 inches apart.
4. Always keep in mind that the crib you are buying for your new born will also be used by a baby who will move around the
crib as well. You may use the crib till the baby is about 3 feet tall or when he is able to climb out of the crib on his own.
5. The top of the side rail should be at least 22 inches above the mattress to make it a challenge to climb out.
6. When placing the crib, avoid proximity to lamps, cords, window blinds, or furniture that invites climbing.
7. To ensure the babys comfort, dont place the crib in direct sunlight or close to a heating or air vent. |
