Ladies Club Announces First UAE Fashion Awards Contest

Sharjah,

Bint Sultan Al-Qassimi, Vice-President of the Sharjah
Ladies Club today announced The Fashion Awards 2006
contest - a first of its kind initiative of Sharjah
Ladies Club, aimed at boosting creativity and talent
among women in the Emirates.
The
contest, will be held under the patronage of Her Highness
Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of
the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council
for Family Affairs and Chairperson of the Sharjah
Ladies Club. The contest is aimed at young fashion
designers who have yet to establish themselves in
the fashion field. Participants will be expected to
be recent graduates of fashion schools or young designers
who would like to explore the field of fashion design.
The
Fashion Awards 2006 is officially sponsored by Damas
Jewelery and supported by Saks Fifth Avenue - two
of the most celebrated names in the UAE.
To
enter the contest, the participants should create
their own evening wear designs and submit to Sharjah
Ladies Club by end of November 2005.
The
entries will be judged by a panel of judges comprising
of professors from UAE colleges and universities who
specialize in the field of fashion design, representatives
of Sharjah Ladies Club and the main sponsors. The
winning designs will be demonstrated on the catwalk
during the Awards Gala night on January 11th in front
of a large audience of VIP ladies and guests.
In
her address to the media, H.E. Sheikha Bodour said:
“The Fashion Awards 2006” will be the
first fashion design competition for female amateur
designers of its kind in the UAE and is intended to
be a true celebration of female creativity and beauty.
It embodies the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher
Bint Mohammed, founder Chairperson of the Club, to
turn Sharjah Ladies Club into a centre of development
and creative expression of women”.

Sharjah
Ladies Club was established 20 years ago by Her Highness
Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of
the Ruler of Sharjah to provide local women with a
female-only environment in which to meet, pursue hobbies,
exercise and relax in the privacy of an all female
environment. The club offers sports, cultural and
leisure activities, spa, beach and food outlets. It
has a long record of community and charity works aimed
at and performed by women.
Last
year the club underwent an extensive renovation under
the management of its ambitious young Vice President
Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al-Qassimi,
expanding the Spa and adding a five star restaurant
to its portfolio.
